Euralis Gastronomie, Maubourguet (65)
Team leader, autoclave operator
The first female autoclave operator in the Euralis Group, CHRISTINE THIEL joined us in 1994 and went on to become head of line in 2003 and then team leader in October 2008.
Tell us the story of your career at the Euralis Group ?
- I joined the company as an autoclave operator in 1994. At the time I was the only woman in the unit.
I was promoted to head of line and then last October I became team leader. It is very satisfying to be able to develop like this.
What are your responsibilities in your new post as team leader ?
- As team leader, I am responsible for ensuring that procedures are followed and that there is full compliance with regulations and health and safety standards, and for managing the team of 6 autoclave operators and inducting new employees. I also produce the cooking schedules.
How are the cooking schedules worked out ?
- You need a good knowledge of the cooking appliances and the products being prepared. Drawing on this experience and depending on what is required by the Quality Department or R&D, you work out the best cooking schedules. When you are developing a cooking schedule, you carry out some trials first, using special sensors and software to record data before validating the process. I also make sure that any packaging placed in the autoclaves is not damaged by the process.
What other jobs do you have to do ?
- We are currently working on standardising and harmonising the cooking schedules with the aim of reducing our current base of 340 different cooking schedules and simplifying this process.
Euralis Semences
Technical Sales Manager, north sector
Having joined the Group in 1997, Teddy NEUTS has worked his way through the company to become technical sales manager for seeds in Northern France.
How did you first come to work for the Euralis Group?
- I began my career with the Group as a seasonal worker at the Ramous silo in 1997, then I was a Technical Sales Associate at Pau for 4 years, and then in the North Landes for 5 years. In September 2007, I applied internally for a post as Technical Sales Manager for seeds in Northern France, my home region, and the Group decided to give me this opportunity.
So now you are a Technical Sales Manager what are your responsibilities?
- I am responsible for our products, from customer trials and stocklisting through to the actual sale.
I organise product launch events, draft communications plans, and collect and pass on feedback to the area manager and the product manager to enable them to develop products which better meet the needs of our customers.
What other jobs do you have to do?
- I sometimes have to intervene when a customer asks me to help with a deal he is involved with or on a key point such as product delivery times.
What do you like best about your current post?
- I am discovering a new side to my job, I am much more involved personally, mostly with the customers and distributors, with much more professional responsibility than I have had before.
I am also working in a sector which is new to the Group, so there is plenty of work day-to-day as I am canvassing in an area where there has been no groundwork before. I really enjoy being the Group's standard-bearer.
Euralis holding, Lescar (64)
Salaries administration
Having worked for the Group since 1971, Maryse explains her career path with the Group and her job in salaries administration.
How did you come to join the Euralis Group?
- I first joined the Maison du Paysan in 1971 as an administrator before becoming a secretary with the Stores section at the time. In 1978, I moved to the Personnel Department to look after the seasonal workers, and I have now been in this department for 30 years.
How has the job changed in the last 30 years?
- When I started we did everything manually; since computerisation and the arrival of software packages like SAP, pay is dealt with automatically and my responsibilities have moved more towards supervision and the integration of variable data. This means we can handle much larger volumes of work.
What are your day-to-day responsibilities?
- I manage the records of almost 700 employees, from the signature of their contract until they leave or retire. I look after their actual pay and also their contributions records, declarations to the various retirement and mutual funds like the MSA, the agricultural workers' fund, pension contributions and sick pay.
What do you like most about your job?
- It's a job with plenty of variety, really diverse and always changing, so it's always interesting and challenging. I have been in the Personnel Department for 30 years now and believe me, I have never been bored.
What does Euralis mean to you?
- I enjoy working here; Euralis is like my second family, I always look forward to coming to work, I really love my job!!!
Euralis Magasins
Store Manager
at Saint-Vincent de Tyrosse (40)
Jean-Michel Destribats joined the company in 1990 as a sales adviser at the Maison du Paysan store at Saint-Vincent de Tyrosse (now a Point Vert). He is now Store Manager at the same store, having previously been manager at the branch in Bayonne (64).
How did you come to work for the Euralis Group?
- I joined in 1990 as a sales adviser at the store at Saint-Vincent de Tyrosse and I progressed on to become a 3rd level Sales Adviser before applying for the post of store manager at Bayonne; my application was successful. A year later, I was offered the same job in the store at Saint-Vincent de Tyrosse.
So now you are a store manager, what are your responsibilities?
- I have to do the standard work of a sales adviser, namely selling, advising and restocking, staying in line with existing policy and taking charge of markdowns and stock levels. Since becoming a store manager, I am now responsible for three sales advisers. So every day I have to do my very best to keep them motivated, to ensure they are working consistently together, create a team spirit: really,
I suppose, sustaining the essence of the store.
Do you have other, more occasional tasks?
- In collaboration with the merchandising department and my regional manager, we have just finished reviewing the store's overall look, based on customer remarks and on sales.
What do you like best about your job?
- What I enjoy is seeing our customers and knowing from their reactions that the store is well run, that it's attractive and that there is a good atmosphere within the team. I always feel enthusiastic about my job.
